Since its inception, the enhancement of the Punta Begoña Galleries has sought to open heritage to the people, making them part of a complex and exciting process: the recovery of an iconic monument in the Getxo landscape. Guided tours, landscape routes, concerts, talks, dramatized visits, radio, classes, cinema… all follow one another to turn this unique space into a cultural and social benchmark for the municipality.
Since 2017, the Open House Bilbao festival has sought to showcase (and make visible) architecture to the public, with a participatory and transversal spirit that in 2024 involves more than 600 volunteers and 72 buildings and spaces across the city.
It is no surprise that both projects are joining forces once again in this eighth edition, in which the Festival is reinterpreting itself with a new name, expanding its duration and programming, and, above all, incorporating “other diverse architectures” to open new paths of knowledge in different ways of approaching, living, and working with architecture. A path where Punta Begoña stands as a mandatory and unique stop in Getxo, within the intense and rich program developed for the OPEN Festival, which is also positioning itself on an international scale through its inclusion in the Open House Europe network.
On Sunday, October 6, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the Punta Begoña Galleries will open their doors, and during these five hours, the Festival volunteers will guide visitors through a tour of architectural innovation and heritage sustainability.
Three days earlier, on October 3 at 6:00 PM, the director of the Punta Begoña Foundation, María Peraita, will participate in the workshop and dialogue “Towards a social and inclusive urbanism” hosted by BBK Kuna as an extraordinary activity of the festival program, aiming for an encounter and reflection that leads us to rethink our cities and contribute to their construction from a more equitable and human perspective, where the female gaze becomes a central element in urban planning and development.
