‘The 2 faces of the Estuary’ tour, which includes a boat trip between Getxo and Sestao, allows you to discover the relationship between Punta Begoña Galleries and the Blast Furnace through a sequence of observation, travel and shared storytelling, bringing landscape, memory and urban transformation into dialogue.
On this guided tour, which will take place on 14 November, you will discover the dual identity that the estuary has always possessed: it has been both a boundary and a link; a natural landscape and a space profoundly transformed by humankind; a place of leisure and the setting for intense industrial activity.
On one bank we find mainly residential villas and elegant promenades; on the other, factories, shipyards and blast furnaces that for decades fuelled the economic development of an entire region. Yet these two sides have never been separate. They are the result of a single history, a narrative that enables us to understand why the Estuary has never really been a boundary between opposing worlds, but rather the place where they have all come together.
Today, the restoration of industrial heritage enables us to tell that story to new generations. We do not view these structures merely as old factories; we see them as part of our collective memory. Punta Begoña Galleries and the Blast Furnace represent a new perspective on heritage, together forming a much more complete narrative of the history of Bizkaia.
Dare to discover it!
And all this as a part of the extensive programme for the TAC! 2026 Urban Architecture Festival, which will take place in Sestao and Barcelona.
