The Ceramic Corridor

As you walk along the 85 metres of this gallery overlooking the Cantabrian coast, taking in its many details, Ricardo Bastida’s vision for Punta Begoña gradually comes into focus. The sweeping reinforced-concrete arcades become light pergolas among the trees; sgraffito clovers traced in mortar evoke hanging vines; ashlar masonry and arches recall the walls of Renaissance palaces; and a vibrant carpet of Sevillian ceramics transforms into the lush vegetation of this remarkable vertical garden, whose courtyard, in this case, is none other than the sea itself. For this view alone, Punta Begoña is well worth a visit.
