The restoration has reinstated the ceramic floor’s original pattern, the elegant lines of its balustrades, its decorative reinforced-concrete colonnade, and the nearly five-metre-high windows crafted from Burmese teak. It has also safeguarded the mouldings and sgraffito decoration that adorn the ceilings and walls, restoring the theatrical grandeur that once characterised the life of Biscay’s bourgeoisie during the Roaring Twenties, when this remarkable space was created.
oday, just as it did a century ago, it forms a transition between the private and the public realms while serving as a showcase for both. Its 62 square metres extend the possibilities of the adjoining State Room, for which it provides a monumental entrance hall.
