Organised by the Punta Begoña Foundation, the History, Geology and Landscape Tours connect two of Getxo’s landmarks: La Galea Fort and the Punta Begoña Galleries. Along the way, visitors discover the natural environment and the transformations that have shaped the landscape over time.
The route explores key chapters in Getxo’s history: the formation of the flysch, prehistoric settlements, military structures, the infrastructure that accompanied its economic growth, and the traces left by wars, business, wealth, intrigue, crises and decline over the past century. It also reveals the role Getxo has played in the wider history of Bizkaia and the Basque Country.
This three-hour tour invites visitors to observe, interpret and understand the landscape as an essential part of our heritage.
