A leading figure in landscape and mountain photography, Santiago Yaniz has been published in National Geographic and has a long list of successful books designed to be viewed, read, explored and enjoyed in the places portrayed.
His work “Unforgettable landscapes, photo excursions” is included among the 10 best landscape photography books in Spanish.
For the exhibition “Panoramic Mountains”, which can be visited at the Punta Begoña Galleries between 22 and 25 Maiatza, the author has selected a repertoire of images that evoke emotions and a desire to travel, to get closer to nature in a non-invasive way, but rather slowly, attentively and thoughtfully.
To generate that complicit gaze with nature, the exhibition includes images slow-cooked over a low heat and presented in large panoramic formats with a striking visual impact.

Santiago Yaniz highlights that in his creative process, systematic work is essential: dedicating effort and calm to get to know the places, the weather, the light, the position, the most suitable techniques.
But he insists strongly on patience, rest and calm, in a society immersed in a frantic race.
However, he trusts that among the younger generations there will be people who stop, reflect, look calmly and with a quality as photographic as perspective. A respectful attitude towards nature, which for him is something prior and fundamental in relation to sustainability.
“I cannot see Punta Begoña as Horacio Echevarrieta saw it. The activity is different. But it is normal that Echevarrieta chose the place of Punta Begoña. I have walked around its surroundings many times, looking out to sea from the breakwater. It is a fantastic setting for photography, because so many things are happening before your eyes”.
The exhibition “Panoramic Mountains” by Santiago Yaniz is part of the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Etorkizuna Mendi Taldea, a Getxo mountain association that is celebrating its five decades of history with an outstanding programme of activities.
It will take place at the Punta Begoña Galleries between 22 and 25 Maiatza, from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00. Admission will be free of charge.
