Despite its complex history over the centuries, one thing that truly defines Punta Begoña is the place it holds in the memories of the people of Getxo—those who have slipped inside to discover its secrets or gathered there to share secrets of their own.
This shared memory has been researched and documented by a team of historians, architects, journalists and archaeologists from the UNESCO Chair in Cultural Landscapes and Heritage. As a result, the Foundation now holds an extensive archive documenting the recent history of Getxo, with hundreds of records and dozens of interviews that bring the monument back to life through the memories of those who knew it.
Today, those same people continue to shape Punta Begoña’s collective memory. They take part in talks and discussions, visit art exhibitions, attend concerts and performances, enjoy dance and choral events, listen to live radio broadcasts and, above all, return to see how Punta Begoña is changing—adding new stories to its history every day.
