Perhaps the most evocative space within the Punta Begoña complex lies beneath its State Room. This underground chamber brings together the natural and the man-made, where architecture and geology meet.
From the walkway that allows visitors to explore the space, two geological eras unfold across the 27-metre cliff face that forms the backdrop to the chamber. Protected by the reinforced-concrete monument, this remarkable “fourth wall” showcases the ingenuity of those who built it a century ago, making the most of every available space.
A carefully designed lighting scheme enhances the room’s natural sense of drama, providing a striking setting for the exhibitions and events that have taken place within its 130 square metres, overlooking the flysch, since the space was discovered in 2017.
