Legend has it that whenever Horacio Echevarrieta spotted one of his ships approaching from this terrace, he would signal to the crew to send a launch ashore to collect him. It is also said that, after a long voyage, he would ask for Punta Begoña to be illuminated like a lighthouse, welcoming him home.
Covering 565 square metres, this terrace invites visitors to slow down and wander among the exotic plants that still fill its flower beds, while taking in the landmarks that once defined this strategic setting. Across the estuary lie the Port of Bilbao, the former mining communities of La Reineta and Mount Serantes. On this side stand the grand villas of Las Arenas, the marina and the Algorta breakwater with its international passenger terminal. Linking both shores, just a short walk away, is the Bizkaia Bridge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
