A winter in which art, culture, and training “have taken over” the galleries is completed.
On the first day of Martxoa, Eitb Kultura finished recording the new installment of music videos at Punta Begoña, for broadcast on Basque public television. The galleries have become one of the selected settings in Euskadi to showcase, from privileged locations, the work of emerging and established artists from our country.
The recordings had begun a few days earlier, at the same time as the Getxo Half Marathon was presented at the monument, scheduled for Martxoa 30.
During those first days of the month, the exhibition “Mendian Gora” (from the Basque Mountaineering Museum) was inaugurated as a highlight of the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the Getxo association Etorkizuna Mendi Taldea.
The exhibition organized by the EMMOA Foundation brings together “the most significant milestones in the history of Basque mountaineering” and was open until Martxoa 23 with significant public participation.
In this same context, on Martxoa 13, a round table on “Women and Mountains” was held, with the participation of prestigious professionals from different fields of mountaineering.
These activities were combined with the opening of the exhibition “Roadmap”, which graphically and informatively displays the comprehensive restoration process of the Galleries, from the research phase through intervention and socialization to the identification of social uses for the space upon its completion.
The exhibition, located in an emblematic historical space such as the Flysch Cave, was presented on Martxoa 12 on the occasion of the visit to Punta Begoña by the President of the Punta Begoña Foundation, Amaia Aguirre, and the Sub-delegate of the Central Government in Bizkaia, Carlos García.
“Roadmap” will remain available to the public throughout the year as part of the guided tours, so that anyone interested can learn about the evolution and future approach of the project.
During the visit, following the grant obtained by Getxo City Council through the 2% Cultural Program of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility, and Urban Agenda, the mayor set the horizon of 2031 for the completion of interventions and full social use of the Galleries.
Throughout the month, visits to Punta Begoña have continued in various formats, with the participation of individuals, groups, and collectives, sometimes in large numbers, such as the Association of Retired Teachers of Bizkaia or the CIFP ELORRIETA ERREKA MARI, within the educational context of their tourism courses.
In the final days of Martxoa, Punta Begoña received a visit from the recording crew of “Krimenak, Gure Kronika Beltza“, an Eitb series that has also set its sights on the Galleries as a setting for its sequences.
The transition period between interventions during this winter has allowed for an increase in social, cultural, and educational activities, responding to the enormous potential and public demand for activities in the Galleries.
The volume of activity will increase over the coming months, combining new cultural and historical content with restoration and space-fitting interventions that will expand the possibilities for using and enjoying the cultural landscape that the Galleries represent.
