Over recent months, the Galleries have served as a venue for music video recordings, album presentations, tributes, television program filming, live performances, and even the presence of prestigious music festivals.
During the third week of Urtarrila, Manuel Castillo, finalist of Tour Music Fest 2024, recorded the video clip for his song “Silencio” at Punta Begoña, capturing the Galleries’ locations with singular beauty.
At the end of Otsaila, EiTB Kultura will return to the Galleries to produce eight new musical pieces by prominent artists from the Basque scene.
As the restoration of the Punta Begoña Galleries progresses, their enormous potential as a venue for the creation, exhibition, and dissemination of diverse artistic and cultural expressions is naturally becoming evident.
Without seeking it out, the process of recovery and social use of the Galleries has been filled with music.
Recently, Andalusian musician Manuel Castillo, finalist of Tour Music Fest 2024, recorded the music video for his song “Silencio” at the Galleries. He showed great interest in having Punta Begoña serve as the setting for his music, and has portrayed this historic space with the same sensitivity that his music conveys.
Eitb Kultura has been filling Punta Begoña with music in recent times, through performances by emerging and established artists, such as Amaia Miranda, Laura Sam, Mahl Kobat, or this Urtarrila with the meeting of Ke Lepo with Félix Buff, Ánder Múgica, and Txofo Wilson, who transformed the main hall of the Galleries into a vantage point for electronic music.
The collaboration has resulted in beautiful clips broadcast on Basque public television. And a subsequent collaboration for the recording of new programs this year 2025.
Shortly before, during the European Heritage Days, the extensive program “Zuzenean, en vivo y en directo” reserved a prominent place for live music.
The moving tribute to Kepa Junkera by trikitixa player Xabi Aburruzaga; the duet “Txoriak Txori” between the legendary Iñaki Basabe and Iryna Aleksichuz, composer, pianist, organist, and professor at the National Academy of Music of Ukraine; the performances by Tontxu Ipiña or Malú Gáray; the cathedral-like sound of the Biotz-Alai Choir; the Celtic music of Feile; the presentation of the song “Punta Begoña” composed by Iñaki Basabe to the rhythm of bilbainada, as a tribute to the towns and places of the Abra de la Ría.
The Music Legends Festival, which has brought true music legends to Bilbao, wanted to be present in emblematic locations in Bizkaia, and in its 2024 festival programmed performances at the Altos Hornos de Sestao and at the Punta Begoña Galleries, in this case with a concert by McEnroe, at the height of a summer sunset, which sold out the venue in just a few minutes.
Spanish public television also chose Punta Begoña for the recording of the popular program “Un país para escucharlo” hosted by Ariel Roth.
The group Shinova participated in the RTVE program broadcast in Martxoa 2024, and it can be said that they left the stage and the program “blessed,” because in recent months they have been headlining the main festivals.
Mississippi Queen also chose Punta Begoña for their powerful return, recording a magnificent audiovisual work produced by Calle Sonora “in a place with great charm.” Highly recommended sound and images.
On the occasion of her presence at BBKLIVE, singer Verde Prato came to Punta Begoña, as part of the Getxo Arte program, and offered a magical concert at sunset.
The Provincial Council of Bizkaia has also chosen Punta Begoña for initiatives such as GIDA BIRA, gure museoak bertsotan, with music and bertso to celebrate and normalize the Basque language. Bertso also had a fundamental presence at the recent European Heritage Days, with the exciting announcement of its candidacy for World Heritage status.
Different manifestations of creativity united by good taste, in the way they are brought to life, and in the choice of an accessible and exceptional setting.
