What happens at the Galerías does not stay at the Galerías.

Throughout 2025, the restoration process of Punta Begoña and its surroundings has generated interest and impact in specialized and general media, local, regional, national, and international.

The coverage provided by Biscayan and Basque media of the process is greatly appreciated, as they inform and promote knowledge and social participation. However, in recent times, national distribution channels have dedicated extensive articles to the restoration process.

Even prestigious international magazines such as “Il giornale dell’Arte”, following the publication of an extensive report in El País, dedicated a lengthy article to the open restoration of the Galerías Punta Begoña. Also, national and regional television networks addressed the project from very diverse perspectives.

In the last month of the year came the pleasant surprise that the historic magazine “Muy Interesante” dedicated in its Abendua issue the Discovery Current Affairs section to a series of featured news items among which was the “Recovery of the Galerías Punta Begoña in Getxo”.

Throughout the article, notable aspects were mentioned about the value of the Galerías as an “architectural complex…symbol of the economic splendor of the industrial bourgeoisie of the early 20th century”.

It is stated that the Galerías “are located in an area of notable geological and archaeological interest that still preserves vestiges of its use as a fortress that protected access to Bilbao in the 17th century”.

The report discusses the presence of the coastal flysch, the discovery of a prehistoric site 4,800 years old, as well as the figure of Horacio Echevarrieta, promoter of the Galerías, and their exceptional location.

And it is highlighted that the architectural complex is destined to become “the hub of cultural and civic activities of the municipality”.

The dissemination of the restoration process of Punta Begoña through the magazine “Muy Interesante”, dedicated to “popular science and outreach”, is of great interest, due to its prestige reflected in relevant recognitions, trajectory of several decades, circulation of hundreds of thousands of copies, international presence, and notable digital dissemination.
