Indeed, based on the thorough piece published in El País by Lucía Bohórquez—which opened the national Culture section and remained for several days in its digital edition—Il Giornale dell´Arte explores this “ambizioso progetto per il restauro di un complesso situato in un’area di notevole interesse geologico e archeologico (ambitious project to restore a complex located in an area of great geological and archaeological interest)”.

It describes the Punta Begoña Galleries as a “symbol of the economic splendour of the industrial bourgeoisie of the early Novecento, located in an area of notable geological and archaeological interest, which still preserves traces of its use as a fortress that protected access to 17th-century Bilbao”.

The lengthy article is illustrated with a large photograph of the Punta Begoña balcony and describes the figures of Horacio Echevarrieta and Ricardo Bastida, as well as the history of the monument.

It highlights the discovery of a 4,800-year-old prehistoric site belonging to “delle prime populazioni che cominciarono a uscire delle caverne nel Calcolitico (the first populations that began to leave caves during the Chalcolithic)”.

The article discusses the complexity of the works due to the monument’s location on the cliff facing the sea and announces that the next intervention will be the restructuring of the enormous hall overlooking the sea: “una stanza che porta il peso della storia sulle sue pareti (a space that bears the weight of history on its walls)”.
