“Zuzenean, en vivo y en directo”, a Radio and Heritage activity developed at Punta Begoña during the month of Urria, was incorporated into the Official Program of the Council of Europe.
Fundación Punta Begoña Fundazioa is already working on the 2025 edition of European Heritage Days, which will be dedicated to Architectural Heritage. This is a topic of special connection with the restoration process and social use of the Galerías, because Europe sets as its objective to showcase “The diversity of European Architecture and the relationship between buildings and their community”.
On Abendua 16, 2024, the Council of Europe through Matjaz Grúden, Director For Democracy of the institution, sent to Fundación Punta Begoña Fundazioa and to the projects that have been part of the Official Program of European Heritage Days 2024, a letter of thanks and formal congratulations for the contribution to the success of such a special edition, marking the 75th anniversary of the Council of Europe and the 70th anniversary of the European Cultural Convention.
“Zuzenean, en vivo y en directo”, was developed throughout all the Fridays of the month of Urria, through a joint initiative of Fundación Punta Begoña Fundazioa and Radio Popular de Bilbao – Herri Irratia. Perhaps the best summary of its scope and contents is the award granted to the activity by the prestigious Association of Radio and Television Journalists of Euskadi.
The jury particularly valued the very broad participation of professionals and the public, its following by tens of thousands of people around the world through the airwaves and social media, the collaboration with American broadcasters, its contribution to the contents coordinated by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, its validation as a cultural activity by the Ministry of Culture, and its incorporation into the official program of the Council of Europe.
The Council of Europe highlights in its communication that the activities of the Official Program open doors and create opportunities “for people to connect with the cultural diversity and history of Europe. Whether they showcase lesser-known community stories or ensure that iconic sites are open to all, your contributions safeguard heritage while fostering understanding and unity”.
It concludes by noting that
“The success of the European Heritage Days is a testament to your dedication, and it is truly an honor to witness the positive impact of your work”.
The recognition from the Council of Europe is an important reinforcement to drive the Foundation’s commitment, which is already working on the Heritage Days 2025, focused this year on something as intrinsic to the restoration of Punta Begoña as Architectural Heritage and the relationship between buildings and their community.
