The history and construction quality of Punta Begoña are highlights for the vast majority of those who visit the site through one of the many forms of activity and participation offered to the public. However, the light, space, location, and surroundings also make the monument incomparable.

For this reason, activity at Punta Begoña does not decrease throughout the summer; instead, it brings a level of participation on par with the rest of the year.

The summer of 2025 is proving to be key for the development of the project.

On one hand, intensive internal work has been carried out to ensure that the provisional resolution granting aid from the Central Government to Punta Begoña, through the 2% Cultural Program, becomes final… And it has been achieved.

In Azaroa, the final grant resolution was received.

This is a very demanding Open Call to which almost 1,000 projects from across the country were submitted. Of these, 92 managed to be provisionally accepted. And in Euskadi, there were only 2. The only civil project to achieve this is Punta Begoña. This will represent a significant step forward in the works and in the preparation of spaces for social use and enjoyment.

Meanwhile, citizen participation in the scheduled activities has been outstanding.

The traditional tours have seen a good response, with a growing influx of national and international tourists noted during this period.

The landscape tours and theatrical tours have been very well received, with the latter reaching full capacity weeks in advance.

Places also sold out for the guided tours offered as part of the Ertibil Itinerant Visual Arts Exhibition, which brought “the most avant-garde art of Bizkaia to the magical landscape of Punta Begoña” (El Correo, Uztaila 11, 2025).

The “journeys through the history of Punta Begoña” generated great interest, and on Ekaina 13, there was a special commemoration for the anniversary of the bombings of Getxo and the Abra in 1937, while thousands of children boarded ships for exile at the Santurtzi pier. Eitb news aired a moving report on the state-of-the-art virtual recreation of this sad episode, which can be seen during the visit to the Galleries.

In addition, numerous groups from various locations have visited Punta Begoña.

And dozens of children enjoyed investigating and exploring every corner of the Galleries while attending the summer camps (Udalekus) in Getxo.

For its part, the Ipurua Retirees Association in Eibar filled several groups to tour the monument.

Meanwhile, Alejandro Sarmiento, General Manager of Promueve Burgos and former Managing Director of the Museum of Human Evolution and the Instituto Castellano Leonés de la Lengua, visited to learn firsthand about the uniqueness of the project.

A Mexican delegation also took advantage of the summer to visit Punta Begoña, led by Juan Ignacio del Cueto Ruiz-Funes, coordinator of the Center for Research in Architecture, Urbanism and Landscape, and director of the UNAM School of Architecture in Mexico (2021-2025). Accompanied by Dr. Ander de la Fuente, architect, they visited Punta Begoña attracted by its potential as a venue for international exhibitions and innovation projects.

The presence of groups and collectives linked to the world of innovation and business is increasingly frequent, seeing Punta Begoña as an inspiring place to develop activities. In Ekaina, Oceans for Future held its networking meeting at the Galleries for BEOW 2025 Basque Environment Week, while in Uztaila, the business group participating in the InnoGest Project, a Community of Practice for Innovation in Business Management organized by Getxolan, visited.

During this time, audiovisual recording sessions of a historical, tourist, or promotional nature have taken place, including international series such as “The Price You Pay,” starring Catherine Zeta-Jones and Rafferty Law.

From the field of sports and social collaboration, Arriluze Txallenge brought its project to Punta Begoña for another year, even including an outdoor exhibition with spectacular panels at the intersection of the Ereaga and Marqués de Arriluze e Ibarra promenades, one of the areas with the highest foot traffic and visibility in Euskadi.

There are thousands of people who participate in Punta Begoña’s activities during these summer months, and dozens of proposals that collectives and associations are increasingly designing for the Galleries, which will have more and more space as the functional adaptation of areas is addressed in the next stage of the works.
