The Galleries, currently undergoing restoration, have become a sought-after location for the filming and recording of movies, international series, radio and television programs, documentaries, music videos, live music and theatre, or audiovisual performances.

The spectacular nature of the Punta Begoña Galleries, their strategic location, privileged views, and the uniqueness, history, and mystery of each of their corners, have led to an exponential increase in demand for filming and audiovisual, artistic, and cultural activities in recent months.

International Films and Series.

During the first days of Ekaina, the logistical deployment around Punta Begoña strongly caught the attention of the large number of people who regularly pass through the area.

Inside the Galleries, the activity was even more surprising. “The Price You Pay,” the new Amazon Prime production starring Catherine Zeta-Jones, directed by Damon Thomas, and featuring a prominent cast of top-tier actors, was being filmed.

This deployment corresponds to the highest-impact filming hosted in Euskadi since “Game of Thrones,” with a multimillion-euro budget, and which, through its distribution on streaming services, platforms, and television channels, will reach tens of millions of viewers worldwide.

The specific agreement between the production company and Fundación Punta Begoña Fundazioa includes several specific actions for the dissemination and promotion of the Galleries and their restoration project.

Over the past few months, taking advantage of the transition period between the most complex works (structural stabilization of the Galleries by “stitching” the monument to the cliff) and the conditioning and enabling works that are now beginning, Punta Begoña has been able to respond to numerous requests to develop audiovisual activities in the Galleries.

At the last San Sebastián Film Festival, the documentary film “This is not Hollywood,” about the Ibarretxe filmmaker brothers, was presented, featuring sequences shot in Punta Begoña and with the participation of Juan Echanove, Alicia San Juan, Santiago Segura, and Nacho Vigalondo.

To these requests, independent cinema is added, with proposals such as “Viejas glorias” by director Jon Ander Serrano “Jaxsa”.

Radio and Television Programs.

Eitb also filmed in Punta Begoña “Krimenak. Gure kronika beltza ”, a flagship series of Basque public television, which has all the components to become a broadcast success.

The collaboration with Eitb Kultura has been renewed this year, and emerging and established music groups from Euskadi record their performances in the Galleries for broadcast on Basque public television.

Recording of Music Videos and Live Performances.

Music videos are filmed in Punta Begoña, and festivals of the relevance of BBK Music Legends program “gourmet” performances on the beautiful sea-view watchtowers offered by the Galleries.

Also, radio programs with live audiences and live music are held, featuring national and international artists.

RTVE has also chosen Punta Begoña as a set and stage, bringing the recording of reference programs such as Zoom Tendencias, or Un país para escucharlo with Ariel Rot, who gave us a spectacular clip of the group Shinova in the beautiful south gallery, to the Galleries.

Documentaries.

Requests for the space for documentary filming are frequent. This spring, the surf documentary “Big Wave Basque Country” was presented, also featuring Punta Begoña.

Theatre.

Among the many activities offered by Punta Begoña are dramatized tours about its promoter, Horacio Echevarrieta. And we are fortunate to have a renowned theatre and film director and producer like Gorka Mínguez, who has just shot his first feature film “¿Cómo hemos llegado a esto?” with a stellar cast, for the leading role. And for its Basque version, with the famous actor, Aitor Fernandino.

The Time Machine.

And to close the audiovisual circle, Fundación Punta Begoña has designed a “time machine,” a tool that combines the most innovative technologies, audiovisual language and aesthetics, virtual recreation, artificial intelligence, and special effects; offering visitors the possibility to travel through time with stations at the most relevant historical milestones.

The audiovisual world has identified the enormous potential of Punta Begoña.

Our job is to showcase it to society, the monument’s beneficiary, during and after its restoration.
